Election Day

Well, this is the day. Kevin and I both voted early to avoid the rush today.

Politics drive me crazy. I try to be informed and wade through the mudslinging to see what the real issues and proposed solutions are, but I get so sick of it all.

I ran across an article by Christian pastor and author John Piper that helped me put today and this election into perspective. The entire article is here. This is an excerpt of the article based on this verse:

"The appointed time has grown very short. From now on . . . those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away."
1 Corinthians 7:29, 31

We deal with the system. We deal with the news. We deal with the candidates. We deal with the issues. But we deal with it all as if not dealing with it. It does not have our fullest attention. It is not the great thing in our lives. Christ is. And Christ will be ruling over his people with perfect supremacy no matter who is elected and no matter what government stands or falls. So we vote as though not voting.

By all means vote. But remember:
“The world is passing away along with its desires,
but whoever does the will of God abides forever."
1 John 2:17.

John Piper is a really interesting guy to listen to. He has a lot of skill at putting things in perspective. Many of his sermons are online, on his website, and on youtube!
